Acne & Acne Scarring

Acne is a complex skin condition that can be influenced by factors such as inflammation, hormonal changes, genetics, and skin barrier function. Even after active acne has resolved, scarring and changes in skin texture may persist and require targeted, individualized treatment.

At Sydclinic, acne and acne scarring are approached through a comprehensive skin health lens. Treatment planning focuses on controlling inflammation, supporting skin healing, and improving skin quality over time. Recommendations are individualized and guided by skin assessment, history, and response to treatment rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

  • Medical-grade skincare plays a foundational role in the management of acne and the prevention of future scarring. A dedicated skin consultation allows for assessment of skin type, acne patterns, and contributing factors, followed by a structured skincare plan.

When appropriate, evidence-based acne systems (such as the Vivier Acne Treatment System) may be recommended to support skin barrier function, reduce inflammation, and promote clearer skin. Skincare plans are facilitated and adjusted over time based on skin response.

  • Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) injections utilize components derived from your own blood to support tissue regeneration and healing. PRF may be recommended to support the treatment of acne scarring by improving skin quality and supporting collagen production in targeted areas.

This approach is typically used as part of a broader treatment plan and may be combined with other modalities depending on scar type and skin characteristics.

  • Microneedling combined with PRF may be recommended to address acne scarring by stimulating collagen production and improving skin texture. At Sydclinic, microneedling for acne scarring is performed using a dedicated protocol tailored to scar depth, distribution, and skin type.

This treatment focuses on gradual improvement over time and is often performed as part of a series.

  • Subcision is a targeted technique used to release tethered acne scars by addressing underlying fibrous attachments beneath the skin. When appropriate, subcision may be offered as an add-on to PRF injections or microneedling procedures to support improved outcomes for certain types of acne scarring.

The need for subcision is determined through assessment and is not required for all patients.
